Hello?? Aaron... Hello??

Did you even look at those slides before you post them? If yes, I'd like you to try to explain what's happening. If no, please load the correct ones.

This has been a public service announcement, brought to you by the letter M, the colour green, and little parts of my moustache.

Fix it.

April 30

Today in class we did independent events.

Independent events are events where the outcome of one event does not affect the outcome of the other events.

Also, we talked about mutual exclusive events and mutual inclusive events.

Mutually exclusive events are mulually exclusive if they CANNOT occur together.

Mutually inclusive events that do have overlap in their outcome sets.

Homework: Exercise 33: 1-8

DO NOT FORGET THAT THERE IS A HOMEWORK CHECK ON MONDAY, EVERYTHING UP TO AND INCLUDING EXERCISE 30.

permutations and combinations

In a Permutation the order makes all possibilities unique so that 123 is not the same 213. However in a combination only different possibilities count in your sample space so if you have 123 then you have 132 and 231 no matter the order. So if you wanted to seperate combinations then you would need a 124 or a 341.

Probability

Ok take three, these have to be the right slides, and no I didn't look at the first ones I put up I was just trying to get all the slides up so I could finish the post at home...

Anyways on to probability, I think these are the right slides.

O and just another reminder to Mr. Max that he should wear his grummpy t-shirt on monday.

Monday April 27th, 2008

here is a picture representing the math question we did today.

Probability!

Today we did probability in class. Personally, I don't understand much of this at all, hopefully these notes help out!

The assignment is Exercise 28: #1-9 for new stuff, and #13-17 as review.

P.s. 5! is 5 factorial, not FIVE!!!!

exponential growth and decay

Well in our class today we finished our notes on exponential growth and decay which was pretty much just plugging in the numbers into formula's we were given today which are on the slides below. Mr. Max also decided to go the dangerous way and finish off the last example question without looking at his curriculum guide, which ended up giving us the right answer, it just ended up being the scenic route there.

To bad that that the math scenic route wasn't quite as good looking as this picture.

... Housing?

Today we started off class with a discussion about technologies and how it's been affecting our lives. A few questions were posed... is it taking over true social interactions? Will we ever resort back to our roots and leave technology behind? Personally, I really couldn't tell you what will happen. I would hope, though, that we would find a healthy balance between both. I think technology has it's place in society, and that it is a good thing that we have had so much improvement in the last little while. I feel it's kind of like dark chocolate or red wine... it's good for you in moderation, but with over use, things could get out of hand...

Back to Math!
We started on Natural Logs and Equation Solving today. Here are the slides...

Wait... turns out, we ended just looking at houses and how ridiculously priced they are. Interest rates right now are actually crazy low, so if you have the money, buy a house! But none the less, even WITH the low interest rates, mortgages still seem to suck a whole lot. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to that section of my life..
.

We looked at some intense house prices today. Scared me a wee bit actually. A half decent house in a city is a ridiculous amount of money, and even prices here in the valley are on an incline. So everyone, invest your money wisely, because if you wind up purchasing a house (or an apartment such as the 1.5 million dollar one in BC), you're going to need the cash.

Here's a couple options... you choose.

Today is class we went over Exponential/Loarithmic Modeling. We had some trouble with figuring out the half-life but figured it out. One of Mr.Max's quotes of Hannibal from "A-Team" is: "I love it when a plan comes together." Here are the slides and the video on the notes. Exercise 26: ALL and Exercise 27:1, 2 and TEST on Thusday, April 23.

Solving Natural Logs:

Just added onto what we learned the previous day. We learned that if there is the term "e" in the equation, you will use the natural log formula. This is how we differentiate between using log and ln to solve an exponents question. The homework for the weekend was to just catch up on past lessons and try to get through about lesson 3o in accelerated math which is due April 15th

here are the slides:
